A native of New Orleans, Sandra Russell Clark moved to a small nearby Mississippi coastal town in November 1998. This move brought her photographic focus back to the landscape of her native South and to the beginning of the body of work entitled In Search of Eden. In 2005, her home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, along with her studio, darkroom and all of her work, except for the negatives she was able to carry away in one suitcase.

In this series of photographs, begun in 1999, Clark explores the remarkable coastlines of the Gulf of Mexico. These regions with lush, humid and sensual landscapes have attracted writers, artists, and naturalists to it's shores in search of visions of paradise. It is a place unmistakably marked with a spirit of it's own. The portfolio consists of landscapes, seascapes, flora and fauna, architectural and historical sights which document the visual, aesthetic, and atmospheric dimensions of this unique region.

All images are sepia toned silver gelatin prints and are available in 9 x 9, 8 x 12, 14 x 14 or 23 x 23 in editions of 35.
