Susan's Burnstine's dreamy and soft-focus photographs, featured at Galerie BMG in Woodstock beginning October 24, explore the shadowy line between dreams and reality and the imperceptible space between moments in time. The exhibition entitled "Within Shadows" has been curated from the photographer's two recent series, "On Waking Dreams" and "Between".

In both series, Susan has created images that conjure up fleeting moments: "On Waking Dreams" focuses on the moment between dreaming and waking--the blurred seconds in which imagination and reality collide. Similarly, images in the "Between" series explore the fleeting shadows of time, the faint seconds between now and then that float just above reality.

To achieve her signature style and use of light, Susan created twenty homemade cameras and lenses, primarily made out of plastic, vintage camera parts and random household objects. These cameras are unpredictable and challenging, with technical limitations that require the photographer to rely on instinct and intuition, enhancing the already mysterious subject matter. The images are created entirely in-camera, rather than with post processing manipulations.

Susan Burnstine is a professional photographer originally from Chicago and currently living in Los Angeles. In the past few years, Susan's work has earned numerous awards and recognitions and has been featured in several international photography publications and exhibitions.
